Longtime Torrington firehouse shutting down

The Burrville Volunteer Fire Department in Torrington is shutting down this week after 76 years in operation.

Michelle Basso has lived near the firehouse for decades. She and her neighbors received letters alerting them to the closure.

According to the chief, the department's shutdown is due to a lack of money and volunteers. At this point, he says, they're down to a two-man operation.

Burrville handles up to 10 calls a week. Its areas will be covered by the Torrington Fire Department and two other volunteer squads.

The fire chief says people in the area should not really be affected when it comes to response times.
