Public meeting tackles recreational marijuana in CT

State Sen. Ed Gomes hosted a public meeting in Bridgeport Monday evening the discuss the pros and cons of recreational marijuana in Connecticut.

Residents attended the forum at Housatonic Community College.

Advocates say legalizing recreational marijuana would allow lawmakers to more effectively regulate it. They also say that retail sales of the drug would be an important source of revenue for the state.

Those against legalization say it would make it more likely that teenagers would get their hands on marijuana.

There is a state House of Representatives and a Senate bill regarding the legalization of recreational marijuana for people 21 years and older. The Public Health Committee is expected to make a decision about the House bill on Wednesday. The judiciary committee will decide on the Senate bill April 7.
