Police: Man wanted for crime in Texas arrested in Norwalk

Norwalk police say they arrested a man wanted for a crime in Texas.

The U.S. Marshals office told Norwalk police that 22-year-old Omar Amaya-Mejia is wanted in San Antonio on a probation violation, but didn't say what the violation is.

Officials say Amaya-Mejia was drunk and causing a scene at El Mexicano Restaurant on Wall Street early Sunday morning. They say he began acting strangely soon after they arrived.

Police say Amaya-Mejia sat down on the ground and began punching himself in the face. They say he then shattered the entire window of a local store with his head.

Officials say the 22-year-old later ran onto nearby train tracks before they arrested him.

Amaya-Mejia is being held on $500,000 bond pending extradition to Texas.
