Police: 2 armed robberies possibly connected in Bridgeport
Bridgeport officials say they plan to hold special public safety meetings in the North End of the city following two separate armed robberies Friday night.
They say one of the robberies occurred around 8:30 p.m. near a home on 182 Goldenrod Ave. Police say surveillance video of the incident shows a female victim and two gunman. Investigators say the armed robbers demanded money and fled with about $200 in cash.
Police say a vehicle was recovered in Waterbury in connection to the robberies.
Homeowner Kristin Reid says the victim was a friend of one of her tenants who's visiting from another country.
About 30 minutes later, police say a pizza deliveryman was also robbed at gunpoint in front of a house on Wayne Street only a few blocks away.
Police Chief AJ Perez says there are several similarities between the cases, and he's urging people who walk after dark to be aware of their surroundings.
"These kind of incidents can turn violent and people have lost their lives," he says.
City Councilwoman Michelle Lyons lives in the neighborhood and says she will hold special public safety meetings to address the armed robberies over the next two weeks.
"I think it's very disturbing and upsetting what happened in this district," says Lyons.
Bridgeport police are asking for the public's help in identifying the gunmen seen in the surveillance video.
