Greater Bridgeport Symphony performs for Bassick H.S. students

A group of honor roll and special education students from Bassick High School had the opportunity to watch the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Thursday.

The symphony played selections from Leonard Bernstein's musical "West Side Story" during its open rehearsal.

Bassick Principal Dr. Tomas Ramirez says arts education is important to overall learning.

"Students that love the arts and excel at the arts...you can see their performance improving academically. We were waiting in anticipation for today to arrive," he told News 12.

The Greater Bridgeport Symphony's regular season concert is Saturday at The Klein Memorial Auditorium.
