New Canaan freezes over after winter storm

New Canaan began freezing over Tuesday evening following a winter storm that brought snow and sleet to the town.

Residents were seen clearing slushy sidewalks as temperatures dipped down into the 20s. The low temperatures were expected to cause remaining snow to freeze, creating hazardous and slippery conditions.

Once the precipitation started clearing from the area, residents hit one of the few shops open downtown: Franco's Wine Merchants. One patron said that he was looking forward to a margarita after 14 snow-clearing jobs.

While most other stores on Elm Street remained closed, people were out working all day to prepare the strip for business on Wednesday.
