Smoke detectors save residents from Bridgeport fire

Firefighters are crediting smoke detectors inside a Bridgeport home with saving the lives of those who lived there.

Firefighters say a fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a home on Carver Street. They say a mother and child inside were woken up by the smoke detectors and were able to make it out safely. News 12 is told the mother was taken to the hospital but is expected to be OK.

The residents say they received the smoke detectors from a free city program.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
