Man injured by fallen tree less than 1 year after beating cancer

A Stratford man remains in the hospital with serious injuries after a tree came down on his van on the Wilbur Cross Parkway in Orange.

A tree fell on Chris Scofield's van last Thursday, amid a high wind alert that had been issued for western Connecticut. The tree fell on the Wilbur Cross Parkway on the southbound side just before Exit 58.

Scofield, 42, was in the passenger seat of his plumbing company's van driving with his business partner when the tree fell on them.

He is now at Yale New Haven Hospital. His brother says he has several broken bones and a collapsed lung. News 12 is told Scofield has at least two more weeks in the hospital followed by several weeks in a rehab facility.

The accident comes less than a year after Scofield learned he was cancer-free.

Now his family has started a GoFundMe account to raise money for his medical bills and his wife and kids.
