Amity HS community mourns loss of 21-year-old

The Amity High School community is mourning the loss of a recent graduate who died suddenly in Florida at the age of 21.

Damon Robinson grew up in Orange and graduated from Amity High School, where friends say he was a star on the lacrosse field and wrestling mat.

"He was always there for his friends. He was like a very standup guy, like one of the most honest people I've ever met," said his friend Phil Kapranov.

Friends say Robinson moved to Orlando, Florida after graduation in 2014, but they would keep in contact.

They received a call from one of Robinson's sisters in October saying he had been attacked and was in the hospital with severe brain damage.

His condition improved and Robinson was released from the hospital, but he died suddenly last week.

His family started a GoFundMe page to hold a memorial in his honor in Orange in the coming weeks.

The campaign passed its goal in two days.
