Bridgeport woman battling MS, cancer loses home to fire

A Bridgeport woman whose apartment was destroyed by fire is facing a double hardship as she battles colon cancer, which has spread to her liver and lungs.

Alice Hill, 58, says she is going through the worst experience of her life. On Friday, her apartment at Trumbull Gardens was destroyed by a fire.

Hill, who also has multiple sclerosis, says she was out shopping when she got a call from her nephew around 9 a.m. saying that her house was on fire.

Authorities say the fire ripped through the apartment and destroyed many of Hill's belongings.

After living in Trumbull Gardens for more than 30 years, Hill says housing officials have now told her she will have to be relocated somewhere else in the city.

Hill says she's also been told she will have to remove what's left of her belongings by Tuesday, the same day she has to go for her first round of chemotherapy.

Friends and family say Hill has always been there for everybody else and are now asking for the community to be there for her. Hill's family has set up a fund to help her get settled into a new place.
