State issues another water supply emergency order
The state Department of Public Health issued a new water supply order Friday that lifts some restrictions.
It replaces a September order that banned outdoor water use and called for other conservation measures because of a severe drought in the region.
State officials say that despite recent heavy rains, the water supply remains low.
They say reservoirs in Stamford and Greenwich that are usually 88 percent full this time of year are currently below 70 percent.
Over the summer, Aquarion Water Company issued a mandatory water ban that barred all outdoor use of water. The outdoor ban has been eased, allowing car washes and some other uses, but many residents and even the New Canaan Fire Department say they've gotten into the habit of conserving water and won't change much.
An irrigation ban remains in effect, meaning sprinkler systems cannot be used yet.
