A judge set bond at $1 million for the 70-year-old Torrington man accused of beating his wife to death and trying to hide the evidence.
Daniel Gervais was arrested Wednesday, more than two weeks after police found his 79-year-old wife Phyllis dead inside their home.
According to police, Gervais called 911 on April 22 to report his wife had fallen at their home at Cider Mill Crossing. But the state medical examiner later determined Phyllis suffered multiple blows to the head and declared her death a homicide.
According to court documents, police found blood on Gervais' clothes and on an iron rod. Police also say they found blood in the sink, shower and a door jam.
Prosecutors also accused him of being too calm during the 911 call.
Gervais faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence.
He is being held in Litchfield County under $1 million bond. He is due back in court in two weeks.
