Hartford Archdiocese to merge 59 parishes, close 29 churches
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford is planning to consolidate 59 parishes and close 29 churches, including some in western Connecticut.
St. Mary's Church in Milford is expected to merge with St. Agnes and become Precious Blood Parish. St. Ann and St. Gabriel will merge into the St. Raphael Parish.
Church officials say the mergers will help rein in expenses and building maintenance.
Some other churches in Connecticut will be forced to close due to costs and declining enrollment.
The changes are expected to take effect at the end of next month.
