Threat of dangerous, icy snowstorm looms for New Jersey

EDISON -

New Jersey is expected to get hit with a potentially dangerous and icy snowstorm this weekend.

The storm, which is expected to arrive Saturday evening, could dump as much as 8 inches of snow on parts of the Garden State. News 12 New Jersey meteorologists say that northwestern New Jersey should see the worst of the storm. Southeastern areas of the state may not see as much snow, and could see only rain.

The snow should taper off by Sunday morning, followed by slightly warmer temperatures and rain. Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Sunday evening, meaning most of the snow and rain will freeze over, causing dangerous and slick conditions.

The ice could possibly lead to falling trees and powerlines – causing power outages around the state. Roadways may also become too dangerous for travel.

The precipitation should clear out by Monday morning with partly sunny skies. But high temperatures Monday could only reach 15 degrees.

Temperatures should warm slightly, but remain seasonal for the remainder of the week.
