Possible school bus driver strike looms in Westport

Posted: Updated:
WESTPORT -

Parents are on edge in Westport as a school bus drivers' strike could begin as early as Thursday morning.

Superintendent Colleen Palmer sent out an email to parents this week saying Dattco's bus drivers could go on strike at any time.

Some schools, including Kings Highway Elementary, will remain open Thursday even if there is a strike.

The superintendent says negotiations have been ongoing with the bus company that is responsible for transporting Westport kids to and from school each day.

Neither Dattco nor Westport public schools have revealed what the sticking points are in the negotiations.

Palmer says the school system has been keeping a close eye on the situation and first alerted parents of a possible strike a couple of weeks ago.

News 12 reach anyone in the reached out to both the school system and bus company, but no one was available for comment.

The school system says parents should expect an email Thursday morning on where things stand.
