Bridgeport police need public’s help in deadly shooting; city’s 12th homicide of the year

Police in Bridgeport are asking for the public's help in finding the person who fatally shot a man in the city's 12th homicide of the year.
The incident happened Wednesday night around 9 p.m. near the ballfield at Wentfield Park in the city's West Side. A passerby made the grim discovery.
According to police, the victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the back of the head. He was declared dead by first responders.
Police say the victim appears to be a man in his 40s, possibly not from the city of Bridgeport, but they won't have a positive identification until the medical examiner conducts an autopsy.
Officials tell News 12 that the victim appears to have been shot at close range, but what led up to the murder is still unclear.
Chief AJ Perez says police will be relying on some standard investigative techniques to solve the murder.
"Our detectives are currently attempting to canvass the area to get any information through videos or someone that perhaps saw something, heard something, that maybe doesn't make any sense to them, but it could lead us in a direction as to who's responsible for the homicide,” he says.
