Unresolved issues remain on table for lawmakers in Hartford

Posted: Updated:
HARTFORD -

The clock is ticking in Hartford with just over a week remaining before state lawmakers run out of time on some major unresolved issues.

In addition to a budget crisis, there are other major bills still on the table.

The biggest one may be a controversial plan to start exploring toll roads. Democratic leaders expect to meet on the topic this week.

House Majority Leader Matt Ritter today said even if they don't make it by next Wednesday's deadline, some could still come up in a special session this summer.

"We're not going to let June 7 loom over us as some sort of deadline, because it's not," Ritter said. "We're going to be in special session we can call ourselves anytime we want."

Lawmakers are mulling whether to allow a third casino in the state and who would be able to bid on it. MGM wants to build one in southwestern Connecticut, and Ritter said that proposal is being lobbied heavily in the state's capital.

"If it weren't lucrative, you guys wouldn't be asking about it," he told reporters. "It wouldn't be a topic every day."

Also on the table are rules for ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft, as well as a proposal to let Tesla sell cars directly to consumers and bypass dealerships.
