Residents slam plan to bring affordable housing to Milford

MILFORD -

Residents in Milford are slamming a plan to bring affordable housing to the area.

Residents say they plan to voice their concerns at the city's next planning and zoning board meeting. Some of their complaints include traffic, sewage and lack of space at the 178 Seaside Ave. location.

Developer, GAMS LLC, plans to build 12 housing units on three-quarters of an acre. Four of the units would be considered affordable housing.

GAMS officials say despite the residents' concerns, they believe in their work. They say they are fulfilling a need for affordable housing in a city where average rent prices are considered too high.

"That's a smokescreen," says Colleen Noyes, of Milford. "There are plenty of other places they can build. Not in a neighborhood like this. Not on three quarters of land. There's lots of empty lots. There are lots of other spaces they can do that, that are closer to amenities."

The developer will unveil its plans at the planning and zoning board next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the City Hall auditorium.
