Good Samaritans honored for helping teens after serious car accident

Two good Samaritans were honored Wednesday night for saving a car full of Joel Barlow High School students after a fiery accident.
Police say the car lost control and crashed on Route 107 in Georgetown on April 14.
Shortly after that, Newtown resident Ann Brown pulled over at the scene of the wreck, called 911 and tended to one of the victims, senior Thomas Bull, who suffered third-degree burns and broken bones.
"I'm a mother," Brown explains. "I'm a human being, and I would like to hope that everybody else would do the same thing. Those kids became my kids at that moment, and I wanted to help."
A second helping hand, Richard Nichio, also pulled over to help while the teens' car was engulfed in flames. Nichio helped pull the remaining passengers from the burning vehicle.
"I wasn't afraid of anything I just did it," he says. "It was like God came down and just pushed me in there and said, 'Do what you have to do to get those kids out.'"
All six teens in the car survived. Bull, Joel Barlow and, junior Ryan Gombos, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in the crash, were on hand to honor Brown and Nichio.
Police say they have not yet determined a cause of the accident.
