With thousands of students just weeks away from their summer vacation, AAA is warning teenagers of the rising danger that comes with driving in the summer months.

AAA says that distracted driving is part of the blame for the higher risk, with using cellphones while driving being the main culprit.

Other issues, according to AAA, include lack of experience behind the wheel and drivers not buckling their seatbelts.

Thursday marked the first of what AAA calls the “100 Deadliest Days” for teenage drivers. It says that 1,600 people were killed in crashes during these months over the past five years.

AAA says that teens are three times more likely than adults to be involved in deadly crashes.
