Woman who saved child from vehicle impact to be honored next week
A woman is set to receive a special commendation after she heroically jumped in front of a speeding car to save a child’s life.
The incident took place Thursday, when a car crashed into the side of Junco’s Restaurant in Bridgeport, sending the woman and two children flying.
Surveillance video shows Shanta Jordan jumping to push the boy from the path of the oncoming car, helping him to avoid being pinned by the vehicle.
As News 12 previously reported, the driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving, for causing an accident that sent the boy, his brother and Jordan to the hospital with serious injuries.
One of the boys was operated on for hours Thursday to avoid a leg amputation, and is expected to be in surgery again Friday.
Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez, Mayor Joe Ganim and Sen. Richard Blumenthal will be in attendance to present the commendation to the woman next week.
"I want to say thank you to this good person. If it wasn't' because she stepped in, I truly believe it would have been a fatality," says Perez.
Officials say Joran is still recovering from her injuries.
