Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle Seagull announced Friday that the department backs making three more conditions eligible for medical marijuana treatment in Connecticut.
The group met Wednesday to discuss five petitioned conditions for the medical marijuana program, but endorsed only three – hydrocephalus with intractable headaches, intractable migraines and trigeminal neuralgia.
The approvals now require reviews by the attorney general and a legislative committee, a process that could take up to a year.
There are currently over 18,000 medical marijuana patients in Connecticut under 22 different approved conditions.
Hydrocephalus with intractable headaches and intractable migraines both are severe and wouldn’t respond to typical treatments, according to Dr. Kyle Kustis.
The third condition, trigeminal neuralgia, is a condition that causes sharp, burning pain in the face and brain.
