Parents criticize BOE after teacher’s sex assault arrest

Some parents in Bridgeport are criticizing the local Board of Education for not letting them know that a teacher had been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.
The parents say a letter should have gone out long ago alerting parents with children at Central High School on Lincoln Boulevard that the investigation was taking place.
Police say 31-year-old Laura Ramos, of Milford, had an ongoing sexual relationship with a male special-education student.
Court records obtained by News 12 show that Ramos said the relationship with her alleged victim "started with flirting and progressed into sexual intercourse," that she had the alleged victim listing in her phone as "Bro" and that she began bringing him "homemade sandwiches and fruit from her home." Records also state a witness told detectives that Ramos asked him "to buy, find and roll marijuana for her."
News 12 spoke with parents and relatives who say they were horrified to learn of the case through the media. They felt the school board should have alerted parents as soon as the matter came to their attention.
"I was very, very, very frustrated, very angry, disappointed, upset. This situation should have been dealt with properly," says Ashley Hogan, of Bridgeport, who also says she was once taught by Ramos. "I feel like this situation was not handled properly at all."
Officials say Ramos has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the police investigation.
Ramos' bond was set at $50,000. She is due back in court June 28.
