A Derby man has been charged following an altercation with a 5-year-old child at a Shelton day care that stemmed from a Father's Day card.
The incident happened during a Father's Day celebration at the Apple Tree Daycare and Preschool Center on Long Hill Cross Road.
According to police, 33-year-old Lance Churchill chased a 5-year-old boy, picked him up and then pinned him to the ground, screaming at him. Police say the child playfully took a Father's Day card given to Churchill by his son.
Day care staff had to rip the boy away and called police. When police arrived, Churchill demanded that the 5-year-old be arrested for stealing his property.
Churchill was charged with risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct. He's due in court next week.
News 12 reached out to the day care for comment, but has not heard back.
