North Stamford Community Church marked its 235th anniversary Sunday.
It's the second oldest church in Stamford and was legally established through the state legislature.
The pastor says it actually dates back to pre-Revolutionary times when families gathered in farm houses for religious meetings.
She says the church was officially founded in June of 1782 during the Revolutionary War when 22 founding members signed a covenant.
Members of the church say that everyone in the group is very supportive of each other.
"That has been their glue," said Rev. Jacki Gilchrist. "That they are a community that looks out for one another."
The church honored several people for their contributions to the church community and the city of Stamford.  News 12 Connecticut’s Gwen Edwards was among the honorees.
