Some Bridgeport leaders are coming together to help an elderly couple in need of a wheelchair ramp.

Council members Denese Taylor-Moye and Jack Banta are teaming up with Rep. Lydia Martinez to help get the ramp for Anthony Nah and his wife Caroline.

Nah relies on a wheelchair to get around after suffering debilitating medical conditions. The retired 68-year-old is blind in one eye and now needs a ramp to get in and out of his home because he has to go to dialysis three times a week.

Without a ramp, someone needs to carry Nah up and down the steps, which he says is painful and undignified.

Originally from West Africa, Nah tells News 12 it is a cultural taboo not being able to do things for himself.

His wife, Caroline, was just released from the hospital after knee surgery and also needs the mobility that could come from having a ramp.

Taylor-Moye and Banta are calling on the public to donate to a fundraiser they started to raise money for the couple’s ramp.
