The city of Bridgeport says it is working on more ways to curb recent violence in the city.
Police are working with the city to add more police substations in Bridgeport, like the ones already added at Trumbull Gardens and Green Homes.
There were three murders in Bridgeport last weekend, bringing the total number of homicides so far this year in the city to 16.
In addition to the new substations being considered on Stratford Avenue and Marina Village, the city announced last week a new class of 24 police officers will soon be patrolling the streets.
Mayor Joe Ganim says it's all part of an increase in police presence.
Police Chief AJ Perez says the initiative will save response time and hopefully lives.
"It makes it easier for them to reach out to a police officer, somebody who they know," Perez says.
Police say they are planning to add about three more substations in the city. The city already has six substations in place.
Residents told News 12 that they think it's a good idea and that there should be more substations in lower-income areas.
The mayor says he, as well as Police Chief Perez, will be touring some of the existing substations Wednesday and Thursday as they prepare the new ones.
