Connecticut state troopers made their way to the Bronx this morning for the funeral of NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia who was killed in the line of duty last week.
A group of troopers departed from the training academy in Meriden earlier this morning, then met up with more troopers at Troop G in Bridgeport. The bus headed to World Changers Church in the Bronx for one final salute to Officer Familia, who was fatally shot last Wednesday inside her mobile command unit.
Thousands came out to pay their respects to the 48-year-old mother of three Monday, including New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill.
Capt. Mark Sticca said nearly every troop in the state would be represented at the funeral. A few state troopers are former NYPD officers and some are even from the Bronx, according to the captain.
The captain said having a presence at the funeral is something troopers wanted to do, regardless of any ties to NYPD or Officer Familia.
Members of other local departments, including Greenwich, Stamford, Westport and Bridgeport, also attended the funeral.
