Bridgeport leaders tour police substations

Bridgeport leaders spent Wednesday touring the city's police substations that are being reactivated in response to a recent spike in violent crime.
Mayor Joe Ganim was joined by Police Chief AJ Perez and City Council members while visiting all seven sites, from Green Homes to the P.T. Barnum community.
There have been 16 homicides so far this year, and three of them occurred in recent weeks.
Officials say it's now possible to man all the substations on a permanent basis because the police department has 24 new recruits.
Both residents and city leaders say the extra police officers will make a difference.
Police say they will open new substations as well.
