WOODBURY, N.Y. -

Hall of Fame broadcaster and News 12 veteran Bob Wolff died Saturday at the age of 96.

Wolff was a member of the News 12 family since the station went on the air 30 years ago as its first sports anchor.

His career lasted 78 years, including 26 years as the play-by-play voice of Madison Square Garden.

Wolff was also behind the microphone for some of the biggest moments in sports history, including the Giants vs. Colts 1958 NFL Championship, which is widely considered the NFL's greatest game.

His most famous call of all was for Yankees pitcher Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series.

Wolff often said if he wasn't having fun then the audience wasn't probably having fun, which is why he played the ukulele when he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.

He was honored five years ago by the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest career as a sports broadcaster.
