Fire crews battle house fire in Stamford

A family was displaced after a late-night house fire in Stamford Friday.
The fire happened on the 200 block of Cold Spring Road around 11:30 p.m. Officials say the blaze started in the home's attic.
News 12 is told the entire house sustained massive smoke and water damage and cannot currently be lived in.
Fire officials say it took them a while to get to the fire because the home was filled with belongings. The family who lives in the home was able to make it out OK.
They say the situation could have been far worse if the fire ignited a few hours later and they were sleeping, because the home did not have working smoke detectors.
Officials say they also rescued a dog and a chinchilla from the home. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
