5-year-old critical after Chelsea Piers pool accident
A 5-year-old New Canaan boy went underwater for about 3 minutes at a Chelsea Piers swimming pool Thursday afternoon, nearly drowning before being airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, police say.
He was first taken to Stamford Hospital and then flown to Yale-New Haven Hospital, suffering from seizures – a common sign of brain damage.
A Chelsea Piers spokesperson says lifeguards pulled the boy out of the pool and performed CPR on him until emergency medical technicians arrived.
Police say there are cameras in the building that they hope will help them find out what happened.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the boy was 7 years old.
