Police in Bridgeport have renewed their call for the public's help in solving the city's 14th homicide of the year.
Chaz Rogers, 37, was fatally shot on his birthday at Edwin Street and Stratford Avenue around 3 a.m. on June 30.
A close friend of Rogers lives on the 1300 block of Noble Avenue. He says he's still reeling from the death of Rogers, who had been in the apartment building just days before he was killed.
Investigators say they recently arrested 38-year-old Jayvelle Washington, who remains a prime suspect in the killing. They say they believe there were two other people involved and hope the public will help track them down.
News 12 Connecticut spoke with Police Chief AJ Perez and Rogers' lifelong friend Charlie Coviello, who both asked for the public to share any information they may have with police to help bring the killers to justice.
"The community wants justice, but many times the community doesn't want to do anything to bring about the justice," says Coviello. "We can't have justice unless the entire community cooperates in bringing it about."
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
