Police: Man started fight, assaulted officer in Milford

A Seymour man allegedly started a barroom brawl in Milford over the weekend and later kicked a police officer in the face.
Police accuse John Beddington, 48, of starting a drunken fight with several other men early Saturday morning outside the Beachcomber Cafe.
According to authorities, neighbors have been complaining about late-night noise and activity at the restaurant. Police say an officer went there for a security check and witnessed the fight break out in the parking lot.
"He was kicking and he was trying to bite the officers, and kicked one of them in the face," says Officer Mike DeVito. "Getting him out of the car, he head-butted one of the sergeants, and he was very combative and fighting downstairs in the booking area."
Police say they are looking at surveillance video of the fight.
A judge Monday afternoon reduced Beddington's bond to $50,000 from $100,000. He's due back in court at the end of the month.
The restaurant owner declined to speak with News 12 on camera.
