Woman accused of leaving baby in hot car appears in court

A woman from New Canaan accused of leaving her 11-month-old baby in a hot car appeared in court today.
According to the arrest warrant, Kathryn Ferguson told police she forgot her baby was in the backseat last month as she went to run errands.
She was arrested two weeks ago after turning herself in.
It happened on Elm Street, and officials say it had been about 80 degrees that day.
Ferguson claims she had left her 11-month-old alone for 10 minutes as she went shopping.
But according to officials, security cameras show Ferguson parked her car, shopped at Shoes 'N More, and stopped for a lemonade. She was gone for a total of 48 minutes.
Officials say Ferguson called 911 after she found her baby screaming and crying, and with hair matted down by sweat.
Police say the baby was taken to the hospital and turned out to be just fine.
Ferguson was charged with risk of injury to a child.
She has applied for accelerated rehabilitation.
The case has been continued to Sept. 22.
