Stamford police arrest man accused of assault on young girl

STAMFORD -

Police in Stamford say a man accused of attempting to assault a 6-year-old girl last month has now been arrested.

The alleged assault happened during a family party.

According to a witness, Pedro Catalan-Veliz, 54, of Stamford, was holding the victim with his pants down.

A family member detained Catalan-Veliz until police arrived.

Catalan-Veliz is being held on a $200,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 8.

The girl was not physically injured.
