Workers at Americares in Stamford were preparing Monday to ship more boxes of supplies to Texas Gulf coast.
They say most of the boxes are filled with medical supplies and medicines, especially life-saving drugs such as diabetes and heart medication. Other items include food and water.
Officials say the supplies aren't just for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, but also for emergency crews and relief workers.
"We've provided four truckloads of bottled water to support displaced residents throughout the state, and we have provided a shipment of tetanus vaccines to protect first responders and relief workers," says Garrett Ingoglia, with Americares.
According to officials, delivering all the supplies in floodwaters is the biggest challenge. They say the supplies will get flown to areas outside Houston, and will then be trucked in as close to the city as they can get.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says costs for Harvey cleanup may be even more expensive than Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy.
"We should not force the Gulf coast to go through the delay that we suffered after Sandy, in the relief effort," he says. "Those delays were debilitating."
Officials say the most helpful thing donators can give is money. They say it will give them the flexibility to send exactly what's needed in Texas.
