CT animal group on standby for Harvey aid

The Connecticut Emergency Animal Response Service, or EARS, says it is ready to send a crew south to help a large number of animals impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
EARS formed during Hurricane Irene, when local communities needed help rescuing pets and getting them medical care, organizers say.
Operations director Jon Nowinski says response groups from the surrounding states are in the areas hit hardest by the hurricane and flooding. If EARS deploys, it will likely go to Tennessee, Kentucky or South Carolina to set up a staging area.
"Animals might be evacuated from the Texas area up to the staging area," he says. "Then supplies would be taken from that staging area down to Texas."
EARS will also be collecting veterinary items to bring or send down.
