Friends and family of a Bridgeport man who was shot to death last week said their final goodbyes at his funeral Thursday.

The service for Eric Diaz, 19, was held at Funeraria Luz de Paz on East Washington Avenue.

Police say Diaz was shot in the stomach near the intersection of Beardsley Street and Newfield Avenue.

A candlelight vigil was held for Diaz the following day and turned chaotic when mourners clashed with police.

Lifelong friend Arlene Mercer says Diaz lived with her family for a time and that living without him will take some getting used to. Family members say he had graduated from high school and was working hard to put his best foot forward.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined.

Police renewed their call Thursday for help from the public in solving the case. They ask anyone with information to call the Bridgeport Police Department at 203-581-5100.
