Officials: Large number of lone star ticks found on Manresa Island

NORWALK -

A new population of ticks is raising concern in Norwalk.

According to state officials, a large number of lone star ticks have been found on Manresa Island.

The most serious disease spread by the type of tick is a bacterial infection that causes chills, muscle and joint pain, and headaches.

Scientists say most people recover with antibiotics.
