Residents asked to cut back on water usage as CT faces drought
The Aquarion Water Company is asking residents and business owners in four communities to cut back on the amount of water they use as the region sees a dry start to the fall season.
Officials and Aquarion Water are asking for voluntary reductions in Greenwich, New Canaan, Stamford and Darien.
Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. Tesei is asking families to reduce water consumption by 10 percent. He says the dry conditions that started in August has decreased reservoir levels to below 50 percent.
Officials are also asking for those who use outdoor irrigation on their lawns to reduce how much they water it.
Local home and business owners are already seeing damaged lawns and plants due to a lack of rain.
Officials say residents should flush their toilets less, to take shorter showers and only run dishwashers when they are full.
