Police say they have one of three suspects in custody after the masked and armed men robbed a Bridgeport restaurant Wednesday night.
Owner Noemi Diaz said the three men burst into the La Sabrosura Deli & Restaurant at 8 p.m. and forced her and several other people to the floor while they tried to break into the ATM.
After failing to break the cash machine, they took $400 from the register and nearly $500 from a customer.
Police say they arrested 31-year-old Jermaine Orinc, of Bridgeport, and charged him with armed robbery. He is being held under $150,000 bond and is due back in court next month.
Witness Cornelius Medas, who owns a neighboring business, says the armed robbery sickened him but did not surprise him.
"Every Christmastime, this strip gets robbed. It's a common thing. We know as soon as the sun goes down, lock your doors," says Medas.
La Sabrosura Deli & Restaurant recently celebrated its grand opening.
