Protest targets officer accused of killing Bridgeport teen

Posted: Updated:
WATERBURY -

Supporters of a Bridgeport teenager who was fatally shot by police gathered Monday in front of Waterbury Superior Court to continue their calls for justice.

Jayson Negron's sister, Jazmarie Melendez, says they decided to protest outside the courthouse because they believed State Attorney Maureen Platt would receive the state police report on the shooting Monday. News 12 has not been able to confirm whether the state attorney actually received that report. Regardless, protesters say they are ready to dispute the police account of the incident.

Melendez has called out Bridgeport Officer James Boulay for shooting and killing her brother in May. Authorities say Negron drove a stolen car, refused to stop and hit an officer, leading Boulay to shoot him. Still, some of Negron's supporters have called it murder and claim that police left him to die.

The petition protesters left for Platt calls for video of the shooting to be released.

Av Harris, a city of Bridgeport spokesperson, released a statement on the investigation that says: "The death of Jayson Negron was a tragic event. The events that led to this tragic loss of life also sent three Bridgeport police officers to the hospital. The Bridgeport Police Department would also like to see a swift conclusion of this investigation."

Negron's family held a protest last week in Hartford.

Boulay is on paid administrative leave.
