Muslims, Jews in CT hope for peace after Trump’s Jerusalem decision

The president's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has sparked debates around the world, including here in Connecticut.
Rabbi Ita Paskind of Congregation Beth El in Norwalk says Israelis have always considered the city their capital.
"I appreciate the support that the United States has for Israel, as a serious, wonderful partner for a very long time," she says. "But if we're going to be serious about a peace plan happening sometime in our lives, we need to consider that Jerusalem is also extremely important to the Palestinian people."
Protests broke out in Gaza moments after President Donald Trump made his announcement. Muslim groups say Trump's decision risks creating more instability.
Locally, Muslims and Israelis alike say they hope the ultimate goal is to promote peace.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he fully supports the move by the president, while adding that he hopes for peace in the region. Sen. Chris Murphy says he supports the concept but does not feel like this was the right time to make the change.
