A business in Fairfield is undergoing repairs today after it was hit by a car.

It happened today around 8 a.m. when an SUV struck Kate & Company Salon.

The driver and her child in the vehicle were taken to Bridgeport Hospital as a precaution for observation.

According to fire officials, the type of vehicle they were in helped prevent further injury.

"The car did an amazing job of protecting them from the impact of the crash, the doors worked as designed, they were able to get out of the vehicle and they were waiting for us when we got here," says Assistant Chief George Gomola.

Fire officials worked with the Building Department to assess the damage.

The salon has a contractor coming out to make repairs and is slated to reopen as scheduled Tuesday.
