Police arrest 3 after man gets thrown off Shelton-Derby Bridge

Shelton police say they arrested three people after one of them allegedly threw a man off the Shelton-Derby Bridge.
They charged Gregory Rottjer, a 25-year-old Derby resident, with attempted murder, 27-year-old Matthew Dorso with assault and 22-year-old Jennifer Hannum with interfering with an officer.
According to police, Rottjer was arguing with Hannum while walking over the bridge with her and Dorso. Rottjer and Hannum are dating.
The victim and his brother approached the three to see if Hannum was OK, which led to an altercation.
During the scuffle, police say Rottjer intentionally threw one of the men off of the bridge. He fell about 50 feet, landed in the water and police pulled him to safety within minutes.
"He did sustain some serious injuries, but he's going to survive," says Detective Richard Bango of the Shelton Police Department. "It's an absolute miracle."
Bango says the 30-year-old victim narrowly missed landing on rocks in the water, which could have saved his life.
Police say crowds were out for what is known in the area as "Valley New Year's," and a witness called police right away.
"That was a key in him surviving," Bango says.
