Bridgeport man convicted of killing girlfriend asks for new trial

A Bridgeport man convicted of killing his girlfriend and cutting up her body is asking for a new trial.
Jermaine Richards appeared in court Tuesday. His attorney brought up concerns about one of the jurors who found him guilty for the murder of Alyssiah Wiley earlier this year.
That conviction came at the end of Richards' third trial. His first two ended in deadlocked juries
Wiley disappeared in April 2013 and was last seen outside her dorm at Eastern Connecticut State University with Richards, whom she was dating at the time. Her dismembered body was found about a month later in the woods in Trumbull – a mile and a half from his home.
Wiley's mother Corinna Martin was in the courtroom as Richards' attorney laid out his argument. He brought up allegations that one of the jurors may have posted or commented about the case on social media during the trial.
Martin called the attorney's claims "ludicrous" and a "manipulating tactic."
The main witness for the defense was unable to make it to court Tuesday, so the hearing has been continued to next week. If the judge denies a new trial then, Richards will be sentenced in January.
