A Stamford nonprofit is offering help with food, rent and energy in an effort to brighten up the holidays for seniors in town.

Silver Source, founded in 1908, is working with about 2,000 residents over 60 years old this year. Many of them have no family.

Grace Suppa, 87, uses the nonprofit's Ride to Wellness program, which helps transport her to doctor appointments.

"Anything I have to do medically, Silver Source does it," Suppa says. "And that includes glasses, dental, you know, anything like that."

Kathleen Bordelon, Silver Source's executive director, says older adults feel better and live longer when they can continue living in their homes.

"It's much better if you can age in your own home, with the support you need, and remain as independent as possible," Bordelon says. "And we support that."
