Audit finds possible abuse of funds in Plainview Water District

Officials say a new audit found the Plainview Water District is a "case study in mismanagement," including possible abuse of public funds.
Nassau Comptroller George Maragos says the district had been "run like a bad family business." He says he questions travel expenses that totaled tens of thousands of dollars.
Maragos says he also found surplus funds weren't used to lower water rates.
He says he's pleased a new superintendent has accepted audit recommendations.
