A former employee of an Ocean County assisted living facility is facing charges that she allegedly stole thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry from the residents.
Manchester police say that Tina Sloan, 48, was a housekeeper at the Haven at Silverwoods assisted living facility off Route 37. Sloan worked there for less than a year, according to officials.
“We ended up finding multiple items of jewelry that were stolen, as well as identifying multiple victims other than the ones reported to us by the administration of that facility,” says Detective Lt. Vincent Manco.
Police say that the thefts date back to April. At least three victims positively identified jewelry that Sloan allegedly pawned.
Haven at Silverwoods Vice President Eric Allgair would not speak to News 12 New Jersey on camera, but says he is fully cooperating with police. He says Sloan was fired immediately after she was identified as the alleged thief.
But Allgair disputed the police findings that Sloan allegedly stole from multiple residents. Allgair says that there was only one victim at the facility and says that Sloan may have committed other thefts outside of the job.
Police say that they believe that there are more victims and are urging others to come forward.
“At this time a small fraction of the amount of jewelry that we found through pawn slips were actually identified by victims,” Manco says.
The Haven at Silverwoods does provide lock boxes for residents to keep valuables safe. Police say that residents and their loved ones should limit the amount of valuables they take into these types of facilities.
